AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared on social media as she imitated being handcuffed following her arrest whereas she just acted by keeping her hands at the back at a pro-abortion demonstration outside of the Supreme Court.
AOC along with other democratic members was shouting outside the Supreme Court:
On Wednesday, various Democratic members of Congress were arrested while doing a protest in support of abortion rights outside the Supreme Court. Before marching to the court building all politicians gathered in front of the US Capitol and were shouting, “our bodies, our choice, and we won’t go back”.
The group of people that were shouting outside the Supreme Court included reformers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Cori Bush, who began to stand beside a crosswalk, or pedestrian crossing area, outside the Supreme Court. The court was encircled by a large black fence that can’t be climbed and is used to keep the protestors away from the court. Everyone who was protesting sat down at the center of the street as an act of peaceful civil disobedience.
Police officers were broadcasting the pre-recorded message while moving around them and made an announcement that if anyone blocked the street will get arrested. Later, the officers started to arrest the lawmakers, cuffed them, and took them to an area that was away from the street. CPD Action posted the live stream of the protest, they said that 18 Congress members were arrested out of which 17 were females. Andy Levin Michigan was the sole congressman among them.
AOC talked about the fake handcuffs accusation on her Instagram:
AOC shared the video clip on social media which spread like wildfire. She kept doing the act of holding back for some steps prior to raising her hand to the supporters who were watching from the sidewalk. While looking at them she again crossed her hands behind her back in the false position of being handcuffed.
The Conservative paper Washington Free Beacon tweeted from their official handle that AOC pretended to be in handcuffs when she was taken away from the Supreme Court by the officers. Matt Whitlock, the Republican Commentator wrote “Oh my gosh @AOC faking handcuffs, this is too much.”
AOC’s office didn’t respond quickly to the post’s request for comment on the incident. AOC talked about the fake handcuffs accusation during a casual Q&A session on her Instagram.
AOC said in her Instagram Story that “Republicans’ favorite hobby is to make conspiracy theories out of everything to distract you and keep you from talking about what’s actually important which is the fact that they are trying to take away your right to bodily autonomy if I was facing that, why would I intentionally first pump somebody? it’s so silly.”
