Indian Current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, full name Narendra Damodardas Modi, was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar.

Narendra Modi is the third of six children born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and the Hiraben Modi family has belonged to the Modh-Ghanchi-Teli (oil-presser) community. 

He was sworn in as India's prime minister in 2014 after his party won elections to the Lok Sabha (lower chamber of the Indian parliament).

Formerly, Narendra Modi served as chief minister of the western Indian state of Gujarat (2001-2014).

Born and raised in northern Gujarat, Modi Completed his master's degree in political science at Gujarat University in Ahmadabad.  

Having joined the BJP in 1987, Modi was made general secretary of the Gujarat branch of the party a year later.

In later years, Narendra Modi played a key role in strengthening the party's presence in the state.
