At Dodger Stadium, Denzel Washington paid tribute to Jackie Robinson before the MLB 92nd All-Star Game 2022 started on 19 July 2022. Today, Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game got back to Dodger Stadium after more than 40 years for the first time, to take in action on the field Hollywood All-Star’s host has been brought but the Oscar winner Denzel Washington had the honor of starting off the special tribute to Jackie Robinson, the legend of Dodger.
After 5 p.m., Ben Plett performed the national anthem while wearing a “Choice” pin between retribution over reproductive rights, wearing a jersey of Dodger which had Robinson’s iconic No.42 on the back.

While opening his short remarks, Denzel Washington said, “Ebbets Field, Brooklyn, 1947”, remembering the date when Robinson broke color barriers and became the first black player in the modern era to suit up for MLB, on 15 April 1947 for the Dodgers he started at first base Washington said that “When Jackie Robinson stepped onto a Major League Baseball field for the first time, armed with supreme talent and unshakable character and wearing a Dodgers uniform, he changed the game of baseball and so much more.”
Denzel Washington further added by saying that Jackie Robinson carried a “towering” presence on the field whenever he went on to receive honors including rookie of the year, most valuable player, World Series Champion, and Seven-time All-Star.

It’s a coincidence that with the 75th-anniversary milestone, Rachael Robinson, widow of Jackie Robinson also had her 100th birthday on 19 July 1992. Washington has turned up to the Dodger Stadium before too for honoring Robinson, he was present earlier this year on official Jackie Robinson Day to celebrate his legacy. He is a lifelong New York Yankees fan as he even visited the Dodgers Clubhouse to shake hands with the team on 15 April.
Washington shared the details of his early days, during the April visit, he shared how he has fallen in love with baseball and also follows the New York players. Baseball players didn’t seem to be taking the All-Star Game 2022 for granted, the Dodger Stadium was fully sold out and fans were enjoying the game.
