According to Variety, the decision was taken by Drake and his superiors and the Grammys did not respect the request, although the reason for the decision was not immediately known. Rather than nominating the highest number of candidates, as did the Academy when it suddenly decided to increase the top four categories from eight to 10 last month, voting for those two categories of rap music would go ahead with only four nominees. , probably because voting time has begun; Grammy votes cast by members voting Monday morning.

Drake’s selection of nominations was unusual, however. While it is uncertain whether he chose not to send the artist Certified Lover Boy or any of the songs from the major genres, album, song or record of the year his absence from any of these categories seems to suggest he did not. It is clear that he chose to submit and was nominated in two categories of rap he did not withdraw. Some speculate that his decision may have been related to his appointment at the Astro world festival in Houston last month, in which 10 people died when a mob stormed during the time of Travis Scott, who had Drake’s show.

Last year, he asked for it to be replaced with “something new that we can build over time and pass on to future generations,” after failing to recognize Canadian peer and colleague artist The Weekend in any of its 2021. categories, except that he has one top album and 2020 songs.

In 2017, he refused to submit his album More Life to any of the 2018 Grammy Awards, though it was worth it; Anger that year erupted after Jay-Z did not win any awards despite being nominated for eight. Drake also cast a shadow over the Grammys as he spoke of his welcome in 2019, when ‘God’s Plan’ won Best Rap Song. The awards show that the producers cut off his microphone after he said the prizes were empty.

The 64th Grammy Awards will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022.
