Shakira whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll is a Columbian pop star. She is charged by the Spain government as she failed to pay 14.5 million euros in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
Shakira rejected the settlement deal offered by the prosecutors of Spain:
On Friday, in Spain, prosecutors said that they would ask the court to sentence Shakira. She will be sentenced to 8 years and 2 months in prison. If she will be declared fraudulent in her expected trial for alleged tax fraud. Prosecutors further said they will seek a fine of 24 million euros.
The accusation against her details six charges. Prosecutors offered the settlement deal to the singer this week but she rejected their deal. Instead of that, she opted to go to trial, the trial date is yet to be finalized. In London, her publicists said in their statement on Friday that “She has always cooperated and abided by the law. Demonstrating impeccable conduct as an individual and a taxpayer”.

Shakira’s publicists accused the Spanish Tax Agency of violating her rights. Earlier this week, her Spanish public relations team said in their statement that the singer has deposited the amount. She owes them including the interest of 3 million euros.
